Last week was truly amazing.  Not only did we see the report we had commissioned ‘Joining the Dots’ published, but Chris and I did eight radio interviews between us, starting with me on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme (one of the most terrifying moments of my life!).
Joining the Dots, written by LKMco, asks the question – Have recent reforms worked for those with SEND?  It is a detailed and challenging piece of work, addressing complex issues, but I make no apologies for that because the issues it addresses are challenging and complex.
It gives a complete overview of the policy changes that have taken places since 2010, it looks at the SEND world in terms of education and funding, and it identifies the different stakeholders that have an impact on those children and young people with SEND.
I urge you to read it – even in small chunks, looking in particular at the recommendations aimed at whatever area you are involved in, be it as:
  • Policy Makers and Regulators
  • Local Authorities and sector organisations
  • Schools or
  • OFSTED
We will be organising a forum in the new year to consider the next practical steps of taking these recommendations forward and building the collaboration needed to ensure that all those with SEND get the education they deserve.
